05/02/2011
The Kahnaw:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) of the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke would like to inform the community that Frog Monitoring Studies will be conducted on the Territory during the spring months. The studies will be carried out in conjunction with technicians from the Centre dinformation sur lenvironment de Longueuil, the Ecomuseum and the Ministre des resource naturelle et de la faune.
Two biologists, accompanied by KEPO staff members, will be listening for various frog calls, including the rare western chorus frog along sectors of Highway 30, Route 207 and the Old Chteauguay Road. The studies are being carried out to gain a greater understanding of the frog species and population in our area. Results of the study will be provided to the KEPO to add to their records.
At no time will the technicians venture onto private property without first gaining permission and being accompanied by a KEPO staff member. The Kahnaw:ke Peacekeepers and Conservation Department have been notified.
Contact KEPO Coordinator Eva Johnson for further information at 450-635-0600 or eva.johnson@mck.ca.
