Emergency Preparedness reminder

08/25/2011

The Emergency Preparedness and Planning (EPP) Department of the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke would like to remind the community of preparations that should be taken to assist in the event of an emergency situation caused by severe weather.

Media outlets have been busy covering the effects and dangers of Hurricane Irene and, although local concern is not a big issue in Kahnaw:ke, it is always best to be prepared for ever changing weather patterns.

Be prepared by ensuring you have access to the following information:

- Ensure you have at least 72 hours of basic supplies to last your entire family and continuously monitor the weather, especially if you are traveling.
- Keep up to date on the weather. Environment Canadas web site has useful information on weather reports and watches. (www.weatheroffice.gc.ca)
- Tune in to media for updates and information that may affect you.

If you require further information about the types of emergency supplies your family should have or any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Emergency Preparedness Program at (450) 632-0635 or consult the EPP website at www.kahnawake.com/beprepared .
