MCK confirms decision to go to Referendum on Casino issue

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) announced today that it has formally accepted the final report for Phase 2 of the proposed Casino Project.  This portion of the project included the technical survey undertaken by IPSOS-Reid earlier this month, as well as three studies conducted by The Innovation Group.

With the results in hand, the MCK has approved moving into Phase 3, which is the final phase of the project that began in Oneraht�kha/April 2011.

Today�s decision confirms that a referendum on the proposed casino will be held before the upcoming 2012 MCK Election.  An Electoral Officer will be selected, who will be responsible to manage all aspects of the process, including setting the actual date for the referendum itself. More information on this is forthcoming.

For the record, the decision was 9-1 in favor, with Chief Carl Horn voting against moving into Phase 3. Chief Mike Bush was absent for the decision.
