Chief Clinton Phillips to address land issues at Parliament

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) would like to inform the community that Chief Clinton Phillips will be making a presentation to the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on Tuesday, 15 Onerahtohk�:wa-May.

The ten-minute presentation will be on Land Use and Sustainable Economic Development in Kahnaw�:ke. Specifically, the focus will be on the Addition to Reserve Lands (ATR) process; land transfers; and leases of Kahnaw�:ke lands.

The presentation will take place during the 3 to 6pm time block and will be followed by a question and answer period.

�I will make sure I drive our issues home,� said Chief Phillips. �Our main focus is on the ATR process, which currently takes far too long. Too many years are spent waiting for lands to be returned to us � lands that are ours in the first place.�
