Second community consultations for Justice Act set for Tuesday

09/24/2012

The Kahnaw:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission would like to remind Kahnawakehr:non that the second Community Consultation for the proposed Kahnaw:ke Justice Act is scheduled to be held at the Karonhiannhnha School gymnasium on Tuesday evening, 25 Seskehk:wa/September. Participants are asked to arrive by 5:45pm in order for the consultations to begin at 6pm. The meeting is scheduled to end at 8:30pm.

The first several sections of the Justice Act were reviewed during the first consultation held last week. Discussions will continue from where they left off when the meeting concluded.

There is definitely the need for more people to become involved, said Kahente Horn-Miller, Coordinator of the Kahnaw:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission. For years people have asked for a way to have direct input into making our laws. Well, there is no more direct way than by participating in the Community Decision Making Process to ensure your voice is heard.

The first draft of the Kahnaw:ke Justice Act is available for viewing and download on the www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com website. Copies are also available at the MCKs main office.

Consultations are also scheduled for Tuesday, 9 Kentnha/October, from 6pm to 8:30pm and Saturday, 13 Kentnha/October, from 1pm to 3:30pm.
