Membership Law Amendments meeting draws approximately fifty people

The Kahnaw�:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) wishes to inform Kahnawa�kehr�:non that the fourth Community Consultation on amendments to the Kahnaw�:ke Membership Law drew approximately fifty people to the Karonhian�nhnha School Gymnasium.

�The focus was the criteria for Membership and, though consensus was not reached, the discussions were lively, engaging and respectful,� said KLCC Coordinator Kahente Horn-Miller. �As this part of the law is the main focus for many people, we could see that the participants really wanted to get it right, which we expected.�

�While the discussion was positive, we have to acknowledge that progress is slower than some people would like, but we have the obligation to ensure all voices are heard,� she concluded.

A date for the next Consultation meeting will be announced shortly.
