Sret De Qubec Patrol Car Responding to a Call Accidently Enters Kahnawake

05/02/2013

At approximately 09 36 this morning, an SQ patrol car was seen driving down Depot Rd at a high rate of speed with its lights and sirens activated.

The Peacekeepers received several calls from concerned residents, and officers were dispatched to intercept the SQ vehicle.

Peacekeeper Chief Dwayne Zacharie contacted SQ in Boucherville to inform them that one of their vehicles had entered the territory.  While trying to obtain information, SQ Candiac contacted the Peacekeepers to inform them that one of their vehicles accidentaly entered Kahnaw:ke while responding to a call on the Mercier bridge.

"According to the SQ, once their officer realized he had entered the territory, he contacted his supervisor to inform him of his mistake,′ said Chief Peacekeeper Dwayne Zacharie.
"We were assured that at no time was the SQ involved in any kind of pursuit of a vehicle," added Zacharie.

Upon realizing his mistake, the SQ officer turned around and left the territory without incident.

While this type of incident is rare, the SQ does occasionally come onto the territory in the course of their duty, but in accordance with the Policing Protocol, they  call ahead to inform the Peacekeepers.
