Iroquois Caucus meetings delayed - rescheduled for early next week

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke would like to inform Kahnawakehr�:non that meetings of the Iroquois Caucus scheduled for today and tomorrow have been rescheduled for Monday and Tuesday, 6 and 7 Onerahtohk�:wa-May in Ottawa.
The meetings were postponed out of respect to several members of the Six Nations delegation who are mourning the passing of a respected elder from their community.
Agenda items include updates on impending Federal legislation on the division of matrimonial assets (S-2) as well as laws regarding tobacco; discussions on the status of Aboriginal Justices of the Peace and their legal authority; the planning of a follow-up meeting with Assembly of First Nations National Chief Shawn A-In-Chut Atleo; Border Crossing; and the Aboriginal and Northern Development Canada approach to education.
Chiefs Martin Leborgne, Billy Diabo and Bobby Patton will be attending. They will leave for Ottawa after participating in Monday�s Council meeting and return to the office on Wednesday.
