Transfer Depot operating as usual

05/16/2013

The Kahnaw:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) of the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke would like to reassure residents that the Transfer Depot is operating as usual, with the exception of accepting bagged Household Garbage. As usual, residents are encouraged to compost & recycle.

Wed like to dispel all the rumors that the Transfer Depot is no longer accepting larger refuse and demolition, or even that is closing, said KEPO Coordinator Eva Johnson. The Transfer Depot continues to accept small amounts of construction material, appliances, old furniture, brush and electronics from private individual community members as always commerce and industry must arrange for their own garbage disposal."

Operators at the Transfer Depot ask that all large items, whether they be wood, plastic or other materials, be broken down into smaller pieces to allow for more items to fit in the receptacle bins to maximize space and lower costs.

Were asking is that everyone be respectful of the fact that we have limited resources to work with," Johnson added. And remember, in the long run spreading rumors and incorrect information makes things more difficult for everyone.

For specific questions on accepted items please contact the Transfer Depot directly at 514-249-0961 or the Environment Protection Office at 450-635-0600
