Chief Lloyd Phillips attending AFN Annual Assembly in Whitehorse

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that Chief Lloyd Phillips is attending the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) annual general assembly in Whitehorse, Northwest Territories from July 16 to 18.

Agenda items include Education; Economic Development; Rights, Treaty Implementation & Comprehensive Claims; and Justice & Community Safety. For those interested, the main plenary sessions will be webcast at www.afn.ca.

�This is the annual general assembly of the AFN, at which updates are given on ongoing work and direction is set for work to be done in the upcoming year,� said Chief Phillips. �It�s important that we have first-hand information and input as required. It also gives me the opportunity to assess how the national agenda affects our community.�

Chief Phillips is the MCK�s representative at both the AFN and the Assembly of First Nations of Quebec and Labrador. He will return to the office on Monday, July 22nd.
