Twelve Chiefs or nine? Review process for MCK Election Law amendments ends on September 27

09/05/2013

The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) would like to remind the community that the draft of the proposed amendments to the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke Election Law is undergoing a 30-day Review period until Friday, 27 Seskehkó:wa/September.

The draft contains twenty-one (21) proposed amendments, the most noteworthy being the proposal to reduce the number of elected chiefs to nine (9) from the current twelve (12).

Feedback forms are available on the website. Any and all feedback should be directed to Trina C. Diabo, who is the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke technician assigned to coordinate the amendment process. Interested persons may also contact Ms. Diabo to arrange in-person meetings to provide their feedback. A report will be compiled and made available to the community when the Review Period ends. Once that has taken place, the KLCC will assign dates for the second round of Community Consultations.

Three documents (the current Election Law; the draft amendments; and a synopsis of the amendments) are available on-line at www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com. Hard copies are also available upon request by contacting Trina C. Diabo at 450-632-7500 (extension 2278) or by email at trinac.diabo@mck.ca.
