Kanienkha language survey

12/03/2013

The Language & Culture Training Center of the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke (MCK), along with the Kanienkeh:ka Onkwawn:na Raotitihkwa Language and Cultural Center (KOR), would like to inform the community that they are working collaboratively to conduct a survey on the status of the Kanienkha language in our community.

A brief three question survey will be conducted over the telephone by five students from the Ratiwennahn:rats Program beginning today, Tuesday, December 3rd until Thursday, January 9, 2014 using the Kahnaw:ke Telephone Directory.

The results of this survey will be used for a campaign that the two groups have been working on for future Kanienkha initiatives to increase fluency within the community. All Kahnawakehr:non are strongly urged to participate when called so that an accurate picture of the state of the Kanienkha language in Kahnaw:ke can be established.

For more information please contact Chera Waris:se Lahache, Interim Coordinator, MCK Language & Culture Training Center at 450-632-5993 or Lisa Kawennan:ron Phillips, Interim Executive Director, Kanienkeh:ka Onkwawn:na Raotitihkwa at 450-638-0880.
