Mercier Bridge work tonight CANCELLED, weekend work SHORTENED

12/11/2014

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke (MCK) wishes to inform road users that, due to weather conditions, the Ministre des Transport du Quebec has CANCELLED tonights closure of one Kahnaw:ke-bound lane on the Mercier Bridge.

As well, the complete closure of both Kahnaw:ke-bound lanes has been SHORTENED and is now scheduled from Saturday, December 13th at 7am until Monday, December 15th at 5am. During this time, there will be no Kahnaw:ke-bound traffic.

This one direction only configuration will ensure road users safety in case of bad weather and will facilitate snow removal and de-icing operations that might be required. These operations cannot be properly performed when the bridge is re-configured to one lane in each direction, due to the reduced width of the lanes, which is inadequate for snow removal vehicles.

Additionally, previously postponed work that will see the complete closure of the 138 down ramp (towards Chateauguay) and one lane of the 132 down ramp (towards La Prairie) has been re-scheduled to Wednesday, December 17th from 10:30pm until 5am the following morning.

The MCK reminds the public that works/closures on the Mercier Bridge are subject to change due to weather conditions, operational constraints or work progression, and that it does not take part in the scheduling or cancellation of such works.
