Notice to community regarding Letter of Complaint presented at Winter Community Meeting

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) wishes to advise the community that a Letter of Complaint against Council Chiefs Gina Deer and Christine Zachary-Deom was hand-delivered to Chief & Council at the 10, Ennisk�:wa/March 2015 Winter Community Meeting after having been read into the record.

Chief & Council accepted the letter but will be seeking clarity on some of the points, as well as requesting a signed copy of the letter to be submitted. Once this is received the process under the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke Disciplinary Measures Regulations will be followed.

The Disciplinary Measures Regulations came into effect in 2006. Previous to that, there was no formal process in place to handle complaints against a sitting MCK Chief. The Disciplinary Measures Regulations ensure that an independent investigation is conducted into any alleged misconduct.
