Investigator appointed in regard to complaints against two Council Chiefs

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) would like to inform Kahnawa�kehr�:non that investigator Rish Handa, Attorney at Law, has been appointed today in regard to a letter of complaint received against Chief Christine Zachary-Deom and Chief Gina Deer at the Winter community meeting on 10  Ennisk�:wa/March 2015. A signed copy of the letter was requested and received on 20  Ennisk�:wa/March 2015.

The appointment, was supported unanimously by Chief and Council.  Chief Deer and Chief Zachary-Deom did not take part in the decision. As per the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke Disciplinary Measures, Ma�tre Handa will be responsible to investigate the complaints and to submit a final report with recommendations on or before 7, Onerahtohk�:wa/May 2015.

The complaint alleges that the Chiefs breached the trust of the community by not abiding by their Oath of Office and by �defending non-natives� residing on the territory in contravention of the Kahnaw�:ke Membership Law.
