Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre Blasting works

05/27/2015

The Community Protection Unit (CPU) is informing the community that beginning today (May 27th) and continuing until mid-June, there will be controlled blasting works on the site of the Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre (KMHC) expansion under supervision of general contractors (EBC) representatives and a certified blast work consultant firm.

In order to notify the neighborhood when blasting is about to take place, signage has been installed onsite with the following notice for blasting signals in accordance with safety regulations:

  • 12 rapid horn signal
  • 30 seconds pause
  • Blast
  • 1 long horn signal
The blasting company will operate in compliance with regulations and industry best practices. A detailed working method was presented to Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke, Kahnawake Fire Brigade and CPU representatives.

Every applicable safety measure has been taken into account to avoid flying rock, to secure the perimeter and for public safety. A due diligence survey of the neighborhood infrastructure was conducted prior to the works and seismographs have been installed in order to monitor vibration.

On a daily basis, KMHC Security is advised by the general contractor for public announcements to be made in the hospital.

For further information please call the CPU at 450-632-0635.
