Warning to Pet Owners from Animal Protection

The Animal Protection Department of the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke wishes to inform the community that the Dog Pound Facility was recently condemned and demolished, seriously limiting the ability to house animals.

As a result, if your pet is picked up you will have a maximum of 3 days to reclaim it, as indicated in the Animal Protection By-Law. After 3 days the animal will be placed in an area rescue shelter or SPCA and it will be the owner�s responsibility to reclaim it from the receiving shelter.

Please note that the fees to reclaim are substantially higher than what Animal Protection charges.

In order to avoid this, please be a responsible pet owner and not allow your pet to run loose in the community. Please keep your pets indoors, fenced in, on leash or tied up.
