Would Kahnawakehronon like to see non-smoking days at local establishments

03/01/2016

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to inform the community that Chief Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer is seeking public opinion on the idea of approaching local social clubs, bars and restaurants to possibly set aside a few days per month to provide a smoke free environment for clients who might otherwise not attend these establishments.

A seven question online survey is available to complete until Tuesday March 15th at midnight. In addition, Chief Sky-Deer will be hosting a kiosk where people can complete the survey in person on Thursday, March 3rd from noon to 4pm at the Kahnawà:ke Services Complex lobby. She held a kiosk today (March 1) from noon-4pm.

Complete the survey online by clicking here .

"Many community members are adopting healthier lifestyles, attested to by the number of health clubs, exercise programs and healthier food options available at restaurants in and around Kahnawà:ke," said Chief Sky-Deer. "Since I have been in Council, I have heard many people complain that they refuse to go to the local clubs and certain bars and restaurants in the community because of the smoke.”

Results from the survey will be made available to the establishments first, then the community once compiled.
