MCK Employees contribute $3354 to Kateri Food Basket

04/19/2016

The staff and management of the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke (MCK) are extremely pleased to announce to the community, that through an internal initiative, MCK employees have come together to donate a combined $3354.00 to the Kateri Food Basket for the fiscal year 2015/16. The money was raised by over 60 MCK staff who participated in a voluntary weekly $1 contribution ($50 per year).

$600.00 was contributed to the Kateri Food Basket to purchase food in September 2015 to coincide with the new school year, as well as another $1000.00 in March 2016 to replenish food stocks following the always busy holiday season. A cheque for the balance of $1754.00 was recently presented to the Kateri Food Basket.

"The MCK staff has always been a very giving group of people and we are starting to work together to be more innovative with our ideas," said staff organizer Andrea Montour Rice." I would just like to send a huge Niawenhk:wa to all our staff who supported this initiative, it′s an awesome way to give back to the community."

"It should be noted that this is not the MCK organization making a donation; it is the employees giving back to the community," said Executive Director Alana Goodleaf Rice. "These kinds of actions and values are what the MCK organizational culture is all about. Kudos to our staff."

In this case, the weekly $1 contribution employees gave to the Food Basket is an initiative to promote MCK organizational culture. It was proposed by staff members and supported by the Executive Team. The Kateri Food Basket was chosen by staff, as it is a non-profit organization that provides food to low-income families and the elderly on a monthly basis. MCK staff also periodically holds half & half raffles and bake sales, of which the proceeds go to various non-profit causes.
