Tiower�:ton Land Use Survey results released

The Lands Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke is pleased to release the results of a Land Use Survey for Tiower�:ton that was carried out in October 2016.
There were 136 surveys completed, of which over 50% of participants were cabin owners and over 15% more plan to build one. Survey participants were from Kahnaw�:ke and Kanehsat�:ke. Some of the survey results were:
- When asked what they would change about Tiower�:ton, more than 1/3 of survey participants mentioned a desire to see restrictions placed on All Terrain Vehicle use.
- When asked which animals they see less of, Moose & Trout were the most common answers.
- There was plenty of support shown to have Medicine Picking areas and Hunting & Fishing areas (including wetlands & creeks) protected

"The data collected from this survey is invaluable to the land use planning project," said Land Use Planning Coordinator Cole McComber. "Community feedback is the foundation a Tiower�:ton land use plan framework needs to be built on."
