The Kahnaw:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) has initiated a wetland study in order to update the wetland inventory carried out ten (10) years ago in order to assess the changes and threats to the wetlands and to develop a Wetland Protection Plan that will help with decision-making.
AECOM, an environmental consulting firm, will be leading the study and will be accompanied by KEPOs environmental employees Kenneth Canadian and Lance McComber. The inventory of wetlands began today (Monday, August 21) and ends on Friday, August 25th. The main areas of the inventory include; OCR, Jurassic Park, Route 207, the New Development Area (South Texas) and the general outskirts of Kahnaw:ke.
From Monday, August 28th to Friday, September 22nd, KEPOs environmental technicians, accompanied by Environment Consultants Biodiversit Conseil, will carry out an inventory of ash trees with an emphasis on finding all the last remaining black ash stands in Kahnaw:ke. They will be assessing their health and proposing stands for treatment and seed collection.
If you have any questions about the inventories please contact KEPO at 450-635-0600.
