Meloche Declared Candidate for Council Chief

The Electoral Officer, Angus Montour, wishes to inform the community that Landon Meloche has been declared eligible to run for Council Chief in the 2018 Mohawk Council of Kahnawake Elections following an appeal to the Court of Kahnawake for a pre-election review.

Meloche was originally deemed ineligible to run in accordance with eligibility requirements contained in section 12.1 (h) of the MCK Election Law at the deadline of June 1, 2018, at noon. New documents were received by the Electoral Officer on Monday, June 4, after the Candidates List was produced which proved that Meloche has, in fact, met the requirements set out in the Law.

In light of the new information, and in the best interest of the election process, the Electoral Officer chose not to contest Meloche�s request for a pre-election review and has declared him a candidate for the office of Council Chief.
The official announcement was made to the community earlier today, live on K103 Radio.
