Formal Reading of Kanienkehka of Kahnawke Law taking place tomorrow (Tuesday)

06/25/2018

The Kahnaw:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) wishes to remind the community that the seventh and final meeting of the Community Decision Making Process Second Hearing into proposed amendments to the Kanienkeh:ka of Kahnaw:ke Law (formerly the Kahnaw:ke Membership Law) will take place tomorrow (Tuesday, 26 Ohiar:ha/June 2018) at the Golden Age Club.

The only remaining task in the Second Hearing is to enter the incidental changes to the draft law. The community will be provided with a tracked change document outlining the changes, such as proper renumbering or removal of sections and/or clauses affected by the amendments. Once that is done the Second Hearing will be declared closed.

This will be followed immediately by the Formal Reading of the Law. At the conclusion of the Reading, the Certification of Process will be signed by the Community Representatives (who were selected by the community at the beginning of the process) and the KLCC Community Representatives.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:00pm and end at 8:30pm.

Enactment of the law (by Mohawk Council Resolution) is expected to take place at a Duly Convened Council Meeting on Tuesday, 3, Ohiarihk:wa/July 2018, where the Confirmation of the Will of the People is expected to be signed by Chief & Council.
