MCK welcomes visiting Polynesian delegation

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) is pleased to welcome a delegation of people from various Polynesian islands to Kahnaw�:ke to participate in an exchange of cultural practices.

The group will meet with Grand Chief Joseph Tokwiro Norton and several members of Council, followed by visits to the Kanien�keh�:ka Onkwaw�n:na Raotiti�hkwa Language & Cultural Center, and the Onake Paddling Club.

Kahnaw�:ke Tourism staff will also be in attendance.

�We were approached by Marie-Eve Bordeleau, Montreal�s Commissioner of Indigenous Relations, to see if it was possible for a group to come to Kahnaw�:ke,� said Grand Chief Norton. �They are in the process of cultural revitalization among their young people, such as their canoe tradition, and wish to share traditional stories. They are interested in cultural exchanges, international visits and partnerships in terms of tourism as well as culture. We are certainly looking forward to their visit today.�

The group, consisting of 23 of persons between the ages of 22 and 66, includes the President of the Polynesian tourist association, M�linda Bodin, who is from the island of Tahiti.
