MCK acknowledges Indigenous Veterans Day

11/08/2018

As we approach Remembrance Day and Veterans Day, the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke wishes to express its appreciation for those who served in the military, defending the freedoms we have grown to almost take for granted.

Freedom can only be maintained through vigilance and a willingness to defend the principles we share. Those who serve, or have served in the past, deserve our deepest gratitude.

Men and women from Kahnaw:ke have always been willing to do their part in preserving freedom. It has been acknowledged that this community has one of the highest per capita rates of service in all North America.

As today is National Aboriginal Veterans Day, the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke wishes to express our appreciation for those who have taken part in the defense of our way of life, said Executive Director Alana Goodleaf-Rice. Of those, several have made the ultimate sacrifice, as indicated at the cenotaph. We encourage everyone to take a few moments to pause for reflection.
