Iets�nhaienhs Gina Deer attending AFNQL Chiefs Assembly in Montreal

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke wishes to inform the community that Iets�nhaienhs Gina Deer will be attending the Assembly of First Nations Quebec-Labrador (AFNQL) Chiefs Assembly taking place in Montreal from today through Thursday.

The election for Regional Chief (the seat currently held by Ghislain Picard) is the first agenda item, with the actual election scheduled to take place tomorrow morning.

Other agenda items include a planning session for a meeting with Quebec Premier Fran�ois Legault tentatively scheduled for the spring 2019; the Firearms Registration Act; and a tentative meeting with Seamus O�Regan, the new federal Minister of Indigenous Services. 

Iets�nhaienhs Deer has been given the proxy to vote in the AFNQL election by Grand Chief Joseph Tokwiro Norton, who is unable to attend due to other commitments.
