Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning event for High School Students this Friday

04/24/2019

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community, particularly high school students and their parents, that a special all-day Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning workshop event will take place this Friday in Kahnaw:ke.

The workshop will include an introduction to the history of artificial intelligence and machine learning, what they mean and why it matters, as well as opportunities that will continue to grow in the future for those who are knowledgeable in these matters (see event poster here).

The event is being hosted by Indigenous Data/Forrest Green, Microsoft, BlackBerry, and the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke. It will take place from 9am to 4pm at the Host Hotel. It is open to youth aged 12 to 15.

Lunch will be served.

This is an incredible opportunity for our young people to gain an understanding of technologies that are becoming more and more commonplace in the world today, said Grand Chief Joseph Tokwiro Norton, who has been working for the past couple of years to create a data center for Indigenous peoples. Some of the biggest players in the world of technology are working with us to help bring knowledge to our youth. This could help open doors as these young people make career decisions in the next few years.

There is no cost for participants, but those wishing to attend must confirm their attendance as soon as possible for planning purposes. Please contact Richard Basque at the MCK (450-632-7500, extension 68275 or richard.basque@mck.ca) or event coordinator Brandon Guilmette (613-274-0000, extension 104 or brandon.guilmette@indigenousdata.ca). More details are available on the event poster linked above.
