Grand Chief attending AFN Policies and Nation Building conference in Edmonton

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) would like to advise the community that Grand Chief Joseph Tokwiro Norton will be attending a two-day Assembly of First Nations conference entitled �First Nations-Led Processes: The Four Policies and Nation Building 2019.�

The event, which takes place in Edmonton, Alberta on Wednesday and Thursday, is a policy forum that will provide an opportunity for participants to discuss the barriers Indigenous peoples face in implementing the following: 1) Treaty Rights, 2) Inherent Rights, 3) Title, and 4) Jurisdiction.

It will also provide an opportunity for discussion on the tools needed to implement and enforce jurisdiction.

Federal Minister of Crown/Indigenous Affairs Carolyn Bennett is scheduled to speak on the second day of the event.
