Chief and Council Create Economic Development Portfolio Team

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) is pleased to announce the creation of a new Economic Development Portfolio Team recently approved by Chief and Council. The Economic Development Portfolio Team, which is the first of several Portfolio Teams to be announced, is responsible for Revenue Generation, Economic Development Projects as well as external and internal matters related to Economic Development.

Iets�nhaienhs Gina Deer is the Lead Economic Portfolio Chief handling external affairs. Rats�nhaienhs Michael Delisle, Jr and Rats�nhaienhs Frankie McComber will handle internal affairs for the Economic Development Portfolio Team.

To ensure a smooth implementation, Paul Rice has been seconded from his position as Executive Financial Officer, for a one-year period to take on the role of Business and Economic Development Advisor to Chief and Council as well as Coordinator of the Economic Development Portfolio Team.

�Economic Development is a top priority for Chief and Council. We have had a lot of success recently and want to build on that. We think we can do a lot more for the community,� said Iets�nhaienhs Gina Deer, Lead Economic Portfolio Chief. �With the change in mandate for Tewatohnhi�saktha, this Portfolio Team will now take the lead on revenue generation and economic development projects.�

"There is more to Economic Development than just revenue generation" said Rats�nhaienhs Michael Delisle, Jr., who also holds the Labor Portfolio. �We will work with all stakeholders to provide a strong economic base for the future of the entire community.�

�We want to work together with the private sector, Tewatohnhi�saktha and the community to develop projects that will boost the Economy of Kahnawake,� continued Rats�nhaienhs Frankie McComber. �There is so much potential in this community and we want to see it benefit as many people as possible.�
