MCK expresses extreme concern regarding Premier Legaults reckless statement

02/26/2020

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw:ke (MCK) wishes to express its extreme concern about remarks made by Premier Franois Legault today, regarding AK-47s in Kahnaw:ke.

The MCK and, indeed, all of Kahnaw:ke, is concerned that the Premier is conducting himself and speaking in a reckless manner that will undoubtedly inflame a situation that has been peaceful from its very inception.

The Premier needs to be far more careful in his actions, said Ietsnhaienhs Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer. Once certain statements are made, they often cant be taken back. Using terms like armed and AK-47s is extremely inflammatory and, in fact, dangerous. It could be interpreted as an intent to incite a response.

The MCK also wishes to dispel the Premiers false statements that the Peacekeepers are working with the Sret du Qubec to dismantle the site at Adirondack Junction. Simply and unequivocally put, this is false, Ietsnhaienhs Sky-Deer concluded.

We maintain that our people have been conducting themselves peacefully and with honor throughout this challenging time, she concluded. We all have a responsibility to keep things peaceful and the Premier of Qubec is no exception.
