KFB REMINDER - Measures to combat COVID-19 in effect

03/18/2020

Forwarded om behalf of the Kahnawake Fire Brigade

The Kahnawake Fire Brigade (KFB) is reminding the community that Kahnaw:ke has taken a proactive approach to limit any possible exposure to the COVID-19 Virus.

As one of the lead agencies responding within Kahnawake, the KFB would like to remind the community:

 - NOT TO GO TO THE KFB TO BE ASSESSED

 - THE KFB CANNOT SCREEN OR TEST FOR THE COVID-19 VIRUS

 - ANYONE THAT PRESENTS THEMSELVES AT THE KFB WITH   SYMPTOMS WILL BE DENIED ACCESS TO THE BUILDING

Paramedics are trained to treat emergency medical situations and or traumatic injuries and NOT to detect the COVID-19 virus. Presenting yourself at the KFB with symptoms can put these first responders at risk.

That said, if a person is clearly in distress, paramedics will treat it as an emergency and act accordingly.

The proper course of action to be screened is to call 1-877-644-4545 to speak with a nurse, who will then provide you with further information on where to be tested.

Should you feel you need an ambulance, please call the Peacekeepers at (450) 632-6505 and clearly state your emergency and your symptoms. As soon as proper resources are available, they will be sent to your location in a priority sequence.
