Task Force reminder FOLLOW LOCAL RESTRICTIONS

03/27/2020

The Kahnaw:ke COVID-19 Task Force is urging ALL KAHNAWA:KE RESIDENTS to adhere to local directives and restrictions put in place during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Community members are reminded that self-isolation during this time is absolutely essential for the health and safety of all fellow Kahnawakehr:non.
In accordance with the measures put forth by the Task Force, persons in violation can face fines/penalties by the Kahnaw:ke Peacekeepers.

We continue to receive reports of people youngsters and adults alike still gathering in groups, taking part in prohibited activities and ignoring physical distancing directives, said Commissioner of Public Safety Lloyd Phillips. Community members are also very upset that some tobacco sales to non-locals may be taking place in direct violation to directives enacted to prevent the spread of the virus to this community. This is not the time to act in such a greedy, reckless and dangerous manner.

Anyone who witnesses any suspicious behavior should contact the Peacekeepers at 450-632-6505. The entire community needs to remain vigilant to keep us safe.

The vast majority of Kahnawakehr:non have been extremely supportive of the actions that we have taken, Mr. Phillips concluded. Most understand that the entire world is facing this pandemic and realize that COVID-19 knows no borders. We dont have special immunity. We must stick together.
