Temporary change to Land Allotment Policy approved

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke wishes to inform the community that it has approved an important change to the policy which governs land allotments.

At today�s duly-convened Council meeting, a Mohawk Council Executive Directive was Passed by Consensus to temporarily suspend Section 9 of the Land Allotment Policy in order to process land allotment applications, which have been on hold due to the cancellation of Seasonal Community Meetings during the COVID-19 pandemic. Section 9 contains the requirement for applicants to present themselves at a Community Meeting as part of the application process.

An alternate means of meeting this requirement was deemed acceptable that will include the recording of the applicant making the request. The recording will then be made available for viewing by community members. The remainder of the process remains in effect.

Please note that the suspension of Section 9 will be automatically repealed and rescinded as of the date of the next Community Meeting.

A public service announcement containing the names of the applicants will be issued today.
