New Community Decision Making Process to Become Official

The new Community Decision Making Process, by which all Kahnaw�:ke laws will be created and amended, is expected to be officially enacted by Chief & Council on Monday, 15 Seskehk�:wa/ September.

Passage of a Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke Executive Directive (MCED) will ensure that all laws will be developed and passed by a communal process, which has been in development for several years. A number of mock sessions were held beginning last year to help community members, council chiefs and technicians to become familiar with the process.

�Starting next week, a new era begins in Kahnaw�:ke,� said portfolio chief John Dee Delormier. �After years of demanding more direct involvement, the time has come for community members to step up and be a part of the decisions that are made in Kahnaw�:ke.�
