Current dry conditions increase risk of Grass Fires

05/14/2021

The Kahnaw:ke Fire Brigade (KFB) would like to remind the community of the increased risk of grass/brush fires. Although the community has had some rain over the past several weeks, much of the vegetation remains dry.

With the warmer weather coming, it is expected that many will head out into their yards to clean up from the long winter. While the Kahnawake Fire Brigade encourages people to host campfires in a safe manner, we ask community members not to burn grass or garbage.

This has been a long and difficult year for many people. Having a small campfire can be very therapeutic and help with your overall mental health, but it must be done in as safe a manner as possible.

Burning brush, grass, or garbage is both dangerous and illegal. It takes just one ember for a house to catch fire. If you see any suspicious activity or a grass fire, please contact the Kahnaw:ke Peacekeepers at 450-632-6505.

For more information on Fire Safety, please contact the Kahnaw:ke Fire Brigade at 450-632-2010.
