Kahnawake Fire Brigade issues High Fire Risk notice

The Kahnaw�:ke Fire Brigade would like to inform the community that the risk of fire in both Kahnaw�:ke and Tiower�:ton is elevated to High.

Therefore, effective immediately, open pit fires, bonfires and fireworks of any kind are prohibited, as are flying lanterns. Additionally, the burning of debris and brush should not be taking place during this time or anytime due to the dangers of uncontrolled fires spreading as well as health concerns for elders and those with breathing issues.

Community members are reminded that the situation in Tiower�:ton is a cause for greater concern because of the nature of the Territory � which consists almost entirely of forest � and a lack of firefighting equipment on hand.
