KEPO asks community members to avoid sensitive areas of Tekakwitha Island

06/11/2021

The Kahnaw:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) is pleased to inform the community that plantings on Tekakwitha Island are well underway as part of the Tekakwitha Island and Bay Restoration Project. Three of the project areas, the Turtle Nesting Ground, the Beach and a location near the remaining natural island are in the process of being planted.

Hydroseeding is also taking place to secure the soil and ensure a diverse mix of native vegetation will take root in these areas. KEPO asks that community members please avoid walking on newly planted and seeded areas as they are particularly sensitive to disturbance at this time. For more information, please contact KEPO at 450-635-0600 or bayproject@mck.ca.
