Important Notice regarding Indian Day Schools Settlement

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke wishes to provide information to the community regarding the Indian Day School (IDS) Settlement claims.

First, it has come to the attention of Kahnaw�:ke�s Indian Day Schools Settlement Coordinator that posts have been placed on several social media platforms offering assistance to IDS claimants who applied for Level 1 who may qualify for a higher level of compensation. These ads are being placed by a company (or companies) that is charging fees. Please note that, as the official legal counsel for the Settlement, Gowling WLG provides free legal counsel for new claims.

Additionally, claimants may only submit one (1) Claim Form under the Claims Process. If you received compensation and cashed the funds, your claim is considered final and will not be revisited.

The IDS Coordinator advises all claimants to carefully complete, and take sufficient time, to review their claim before submitting it for consideration. Finally, those wishing to make a claim are reminded that the deadline to submit a Claim Form is July 13, 2022.
