Asbestos Civil Investigation final report accepted by MCK

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) wishes to advise the community that the Asbestos Civil Investigation Final Report prepared by Deloitte Forensics. Inc. was presented to the Ratits�nhaienhs and formally accepted at the duly-convened Council meeting held on Monday, November 15th.

The mandate to direct for an independent investigation was issued by the MCK in February, and Deloitte began the investigation in May. Its purpose was to gather facts, events, timelines and decision making/authorities in regard to the matter of asbestos-containing materials found on residential and common lands during the past several years. The goal of the investigation and report was to prompt the MCK�s authoritative bodies to act accordingly and exercise obligation to apply appropriate corrective measures that ensure a safer future for lands in the Territory.

Now that the Final Report is in the hands of the Ratits�nhaienhs and MCK Executive Director Oneraht�kha Marquis, the immediate and important task of meeting with various MCK personnel/departments to ensure they are fully aware of the document and what it contains will take place. Once that is completed, the Executive Summary of the Final Report will be made available for viewing by community members.
