Task Force reinstituted with full participation

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) wishes to advise the community that the Kahnaw�:ke COVID-19 Task Force has been reinstituted, with full participation, to address the current State of Emergency.

As announced before the Holidays, the State of Emergency was declared following the recommendation from the Public Safety Commissioner in response to the increasingly alarming number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Kahnaw�:ke during this �fifth wave� of the pandemic.

Please note that, as per the Kahnaw�:ke Emergency Preparedness Law, the Resolution passed by the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke on December 22, 2021, designated an Emergency Preparedness Committee of subject matter experts who can assist with actions to address events in a state of emergency. For clarity, these same persons have been designated to comprise the COVID-19 Task Force.

The Task Force includes the Commissioner of Public Safety, Executive Director of Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre, Chief Peacekeeper, Fire Chief of the Kahnaw�:ke Fire Brigade, Executive Director of Kahnaw�:ke Shakotiia�tak�hnhas Community Services, Manager of Public Safety, MCK Public Safety Portfolio Chief, MCK Health Portfolio Chief, Executive Director of Kahnaw�:ke Education Center, and the MCK Executive Director.  

Kahnaw�:ke�s Traditional bodies have confirmed their participation on the Task Force, as they had in 2020. Representatives of both the Mohawk Nation at Kahnaw�:ke (207) and the Mohawk Trail Longhouses are now participating in the Task Force meetings.

In accordance with the Kahnaw�:ke Emergency Preparedness Law, the State of Emergency will be in effect for thirty (30) days, expiring on January 20, 2022. It can be renewed as required.
