Olympic Torch Relay Community Survey

The 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, British Columbia are just one year away (February 2010). As they did in 1988 with the Calgary games , the Olympic Committee has approached the Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke to have our community take part in the Official Torch Relay.

The Torch Caravan will be passing through neighbouring St. Catherine, Chateauguay and beyond on December 8, 2009 and would like to make a stop right in the heart of Kahnaw�:ke, with a run from the Tunnel to Karonhian�nhnha School. Runners from our community would be chosen to take part for the Kahnaw�:ke portion of the relay (to be a torch bearer, go to rbc.com).

As a result, the MCK is asking Kahnawa�kehr�:non to take part in a survey to gauge public opinion on whether the Official 2010 Olympic Torch Relay should pass through Kahnaw�:ke.

The survey will take place from February 23rd to the 27th and Community members can participate either by email (MCK mailing list), online at kahnawake.com or in person at the Kahnaw�:ke Services Complex on Thursday, February 26th.

The results of the survey will be made public through the local media, the MCK mailing list and online at kahnawake.com.
