MCK Statement on Power Ball Raffle

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) would like to make the community aware that concerns have been raised over the recently publicized Power Draw raffle.

The MCK is advising community members not to participate, as the Power Draw is unregulated and there are serious concerns over accountability. It has also advised community organizations that have been offered a donation from the raffle�s proceeds to refrain from participating.

The Power Draw, which is advertising a prize of $100,000, is being organized by a non-Native.

The organizer was directed by the MCK to discuss the matter with the Kahnaw�:ke Gaming Commission, which is the only body that can authorize such large-scale gaming within the Territory.

The MCK is supportive of non-profit organizations raising monies for their causes. However, this particular raffle is not being organized by any of the non-profit organizations who stand to gain a portion of the proceeds.
