MCK receives petition

02/01/2010

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke announced that it received a petition earlier today from a group of community members.

The petition, which was presented as individual letters signed by approximately 140 ironworkers, addresses their dissatisfaction regarding the situation on the Mercier Bridge as it relates to the union/non-union debate that has been on-going for several months.

The petition states:

“I am entitled to work in Kahnawake my home land as a UNION IRONWORKER with full benefits such as those received by non native union IronWorkers, working for sub-contractors on the MERCIER BRIDGE project.

“I expect from you and all other elected Chiefs that you act accordingly.”

A letter that accompanied the petitions was attributed to the Union Ironworkers of Kahnawake.
