The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that Grand Chief Michael Ahríhron Delisle, Jr will meet with Québec Premier Phillipe Couillard tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon at the National Assembly in Québec City.

Agenda items include the Kahnawà:ke Justice Act; Québec/Kahnawà:ke Relations; Highway 30 lands; taxation issues; the recent labor agreement; the Kateri Memorial Hospital Center expansion project; and legislation affecting social services.

“We’ve had a positive and productive relationship with his government thus far,” said Grand Chief Delisle. “Face to face meetings are always important, and we’re very much looking forward to this one. It’s an extremely heavy agenda for one meeting but we’re sure this will set the stage for more dialogue in the weeks and months to come.”

Grand Chief Delisle will be accompanied by Mike O’Brien, the Chief of Staff for the Office of the Council of Chiefs. The Premier will be accompanied by Minister of Native Affairs Geoffrey Kelley and the Minister Responsible for the Montérégie (and Member of the National Assembly representing Chateauguay) Pierre Moreau.

The Grand Chief is scheduled to provide an update to the community on this Friday’s ‘MCK Friday’ talkshow on K103.
