The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is pleased to announce that the construction of a children’s park in honor of the late Orville Standup is now underway at the green space located next to the Golden Age Club/Outdoor Rink.

The park was an initiative spearheaded by Chief Carl Horn, who alongside Sports and Recreation, organized a hockey game in February of 2015 between the Montreal Canadiens Alumni and Kahnawà:ke All-Stars teams that raised $17,500 towards construction.

“I am pleased to see the park constructed. It took a lot of work and I just want to thank the community for their support in this project,” stated Chief Carl Horn. “It’s very rewarding for the family to make sure a great man like Orville Standup is remembered,” he concluded.

The late Orville Standup started the Kateri Food Basket, which provided food for several Kahnawà:ke families in need. The park will be dedicated to Mr. Standup for his long-time dedication to the community.

Due to safety concerns with construction of the park, community members are urged not to utilize the area until safety inspections are completed and announced. An official park dedication event with the Standup family will be announced next week when the park is safe and accessible.
