The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to remind the community that the next meeting on proposed amendments to the Kahnawà:ke Membership Law will be held this (Tuesday) evening at the Knights of Columbus Hall, from 6pm to 8:30pm.
The agenda will include the following:
Section 7, the Approved Kahnawà:ke Resident List. This section establishes that there will be a list, which is being renamed from the former ‘Non-Member Resident List.’ The amendments being proposed in this section are only minor. Please note that this is NOT the section that sets out who is eligible to be on the list – this will be covered in Section 15, which will be addressed in a future meeting.
Section 8, Council of Elders. It is being recommended that this section be deleted, as per the direction given by the community.
Section 4, Definitions (on-going). Any related definitions from the meeting’s agenda.
The proposed amendments are available for viewing at the Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission website at www.kahnawakemakingdecisions .
The upcoming meeting will be the fourth meeting of the current phase (technically entitled ‘First Hearing’), which began on April 14 of this year.
