The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to advise the community that the demolition of the building that housed K103 and the Kanien’kehá:ka Onkwawén:na Raotitiohkwa Cultural Center is taking place today.

The work is being carried out by Diabo Trucking and is expected to be completed later in the day. All debris will be removed from the site in demolition waste bins, a process that is expected to be completed tomorrow (Wednesday).

The building remained in use until recently. The Cultural Center moved to its current location several years ago, while K103 moved into its new facility in 2014. The last remaining tenant was the Kahnawake Schools Diabetes Prevention Project, who left last year.

The ‘ironworker structure’ that was located next to the playground was also removed this morning after being deemed unsafe. It will be stored at the MCK Public Works facility and could be re-erected at a future date.

The rink shack will be refurbished and remain in use.
