The Public Safety Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke is currently recruiting community members to be part of a sixteen (16) member Volunteer Search and Rescue Team (VSRT) that would respond to requests for search and rescue in both Kahnawà:ke and Tioweró:ton.

Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 years and older who are physically fit, preferably, men and women with formal military experience, outdoor & wilderness expertise and/or emergency response training.

However, training will be provided for volunteers in two parts; theory, maps and compass training to be held in Kahnawà:ke; and on-site search and rescue training to be held in Tioweró:ton.

Interested persons should contact Manager of Emergency Preparedness and Planning Kellyann Meloche by calling 450-632-0635 or by email at kellyann.meloche@mck.ca .

The VSRT was requested by community members at the Fall 2015 Tioweró:ton Community meeting
