Consultation Meeting on Human Remains Repatriation to be held tomorrow (Thursday) - View PDF

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to remind the public that a Community Consultation will be held tomorrow (Thursday) evening to discuss and provide input on the topic of prehistoric remains found at archaeological sites.

The meeting will take place at the home of Ietsénhaienhs Christine Zachary-Deom from 5pm to 7pm. Refreshments will be provided.

“There have been occasions when remains have been found at various construction sites or archaeological digs,” said Ietsénhaienhs Zachary-Deom earlier. “We wish to meet with interested community members to hear their thoughts and answer their questions. The ultimate goal is to ensure that respectful processes are always followed and that proper repatriation and burials continue to take place in these circumstances.”

Ietsénhaienhs Zachary-Deom’s home is located on ‘East 157th Street,’ just north of the Kateri Cemetery, close to Creekside Convenience. All are welcome. For more information on this meeting, please contact Brittany Diabo, the MCK’s Consultation Committee technician, at 450-632-7500, extension 2296.
