The Lands Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to inform the community that the first ever Lands Conference, originally scheduled to take place November 8th and postponed due to Community bereavement, has been rescheduled to Tuesday, December 5th, from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm at the Legion Hall.

The conference will be open to the entire community and will focus on various themes, such as contaminated sites, lands preservation, zoning, and lands access. Further, there will be the opportunity of an open discussion for anyone to discuss topics they feel are essential.

“This is the first open conference that will cap off the consultation process and allow us to get any last minute feedback from the community,” said Land Use Planning Coordinator Cole McComber. “There will be four facilitators that will oversee the group discussions throughout the day. Once this is done, we will begin putting it to paper and develop a land use plan framework.”

The Conference is the culmination of a thirty (30) week information campaign and consultation process that began in early spring 2017. Earlier consultations included community-wide surveys, one-on-one interviews, and focus groups. A community meeting/conference for the Tioweró:ton framework is being planned for 2018.

Food and door prizes will be provided to those attending.
